June 9 - 2019 - REPORT FROM THE ROAD: My buddy Bobaba and I hiked the north entrance to the huge 6K+ acre Deer Prairie Creek Preserve this afternoon. We followed trails that give views of the very beautiful and wild Myakka River now and then. A thousand clumps of butterfly orchids were in bloom and the fact that they grow on large live oaks which had unfurled green resurrection ferns adorning them, it was a beautiful sight to behold. We also saw a bobcat and some white-tailed deer! Plant-hunting location #1,312 since 1993. PHOTO: Bobaba snaps a shot of some blooming native butterfly orchids.
